Jehangir Yousuf's Journey in Medicine

Myself Jehangir Yousuf. I am from Narbal, Budgam. I scored 677 out of 720 in NEET UG 2023. I also scored 492 out of 500 in the 12th class board examination.

Talking about my journey regarding NEET, it was not the thing I planned yesterday & fulfilled today. It took a lot of dedication, determination & hard work to achieve such a feat. This journey is only smooth for some. It has a lot of hardships in it. The one who becomes habitual to these hardships & faces them happily makes this journey successful.

In my journey with NEET, I would like to give credit to Kashmir Education Initiative (KEI) who stayed with me during each & every moment of my preparation. They provided me with a mentor who guided me throughout my journey. Also, the sessions with them regarding all the development of children like communication skills, how to overcome stress, how to make study effective & productive, etc. were quite helpful in my journey. I am very thankful to KEI for giving me things.

A TECH CHAMP - KEI SCHOLAR

I am Umair Bashir, an alumnus of Kashmir Education Initiative. I started in 2014 as a KEI scholar and then went on to become a volunteer. At first, I thought that KEI was only an organization that provided scholarships, but then I attended workshops and educational programs. These sessions opened my mind and broadened my vision. The financial aid not only helped me cover my tuition fees but also allowed me to focus more on my studies.

Even with busy lives, it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering have been enormous for me, my family, and my community. It has helped me to reduce stress, make friends, connect with the community, and learn new skills. Giving to others helps us to protect our mental and physical health. Volunteering has also allowed me to gain experience and meet people in my field. Even if I am not planning on changing careers, volunteering also allowed me to practice important skills used in the workplace, such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, project planning, task management, and organization.

In 2018, I was introduced to the Student Advisory Board (SAB) as a member. After gaining more experience, I was assigned as the Social Media Lead. In this role, I have been able to connect our scholars with KEI through the SAB social media pages. This was the beginning of my learning new skills. I also joined the A2STEM initiative as a member and learned about courses such as graphics design and robotics. During the pandemic, with the internet easily accessible, I continued to learn more about these courses. Today I can multitask programs such as photo editing and video processing thanks to my experience with the Kashmir Education Initiative.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my experience with KEI has been the opportunity to give back to my community. Through volunteering and participating in various initiatives, I have been able to make a positive impact on the lives of others and contribute to the development of my community. It has been a truly fulfilling and enriching experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of KEI.
I was also selected for the GAP, Graduate Abroad Program, which has allowed me to connect with people from all over the world. They have provided me with their expertise and ideas on how to navigate studying abroad in my field of engineering. I have been assigned a mentor who helps me with my research on universities, and we have bi-weekly meetings to discuss my progress on applications. The program has opened doors for me by introducing me to helpful people and is allowing me to develop my professional life and skills. I am currently applying to multiple universities in different countries, and I am confident that I will receive an acceptance from one of them. The next four to five months will be crucial for my future as they will shape the direction of my career.

Never Give Up - Story of my life: A Motivational Session with Dr. Fayaz Mir Moderated by Mr Omar Hafiz

“My parents were illiterate. I hailed from a poor family where we struggled to make ends meet. My Class 12 Board Exams were postponed several times due to the conflict situation in Kashmir. I failed my Medical Entrances multiple times. I was mocked at for my poor English-speaking skills in college. I was depressed, angry and jealous. Everybody thought I was a failure. I had lost my chance of becoming a doctor. But I refused to give up. I challenged everyone that a day would come when I would be teaching all doctors instead of…” Prophetic words they were, just that, Dr. Fayaz Mir did not know.

Self Acceptance and Self Expression, A session with Navmeeta Mahajan.

he began the session by talking about Self-Acceptance as the awareness of one’s strengths and weaknesses. She spoke about how one’s identity was acquired through one’s birth, upbringing, education, and consequent experiences in life, but that it still often did not do justice to who one truly was. She brought attention to the fact that one’s sense of self was the truest and purest as a baby unaffected by judgments of the people and society around. Self-acceptance would truly come when we would be in total acceptance of our positive and negative traits with unconditional love and kindness.

Pandemic: Time to unleash your mind-adversity as disguised opportunity

“A mother had sent her son to buy groceries. The son stopped by at the bridge staring at the flowing water underneath. He waited for the water to stop flowing. He waited for an hour that turned into two, three, four. Soon, the sunset. It became dark and the son returned home empty-handed.” Neither the water had stopped flowing nor did the mother get groceries to cook. Time was wasted and so were many opportunities. And the problem of the flowing water remained unsolved.
