Position Summary

We are seeking a General Manager (GM) to lead the day-to-day operations of the organization and assist our Board in formulating its vision and future strategy. Reporting to the Board of Directors (BOD), the General Manager (GM) will have overall operational, managerial, and strategic responsibility for KEI’s staff, programs, expansion, and the execution of its mission. She/He will also be responsible for preserving the mission, vision, and values of the organization and will be the face of the organization with both internal and external constituencies. The GM will serve an initial probationary period of 6 months during which they will be evaluated by the BOD. 

Responsibilities

The General Manager will have the following responsibilities:

Leadership & Management:

  • Ensure the implementation and delivery of all KEI programs as planned.

  • Manage all personnel that works for KEI in Kashmir.

  • Ensure the KEI culture statement is reflected in the external and internal dealings of KEI.

  • Ensure operational excellence in program delivery, ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration,  communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.

  • Actively engage and energize KEI’s volunteers, board members, event committees, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders.

  • Develop the budget and oversee the prudent financial management of the organization’s funds

  • Assist, maintain, and support the Board of Directors; seek and build board involvement with strategic input for ongoing operations and growth

  • Attract, lead, coach, develop, and retain KEI’s Program Managers, staff members, and interns and provide clear performance objectives and feedback. Develop individual growth and development plans as well as to conduct monthly and annual performance reviews of staff members using a 360 degree review process. 

  • Define quarterly SMART goals for the organization and translate those goals into corresponding quarterly goals for the staff. Track and evaluate quarterly performance of organization and staff members on goals and submit quarterly evaluation reports.

  • Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents

  • Develop and deploy technology internally and collaboratively to influence learning outcomes and increase the efficacy of our interventions. Enhance engagement, understanding, and participation with collaborating organizations

Communications:

  • Explore local revenue-generating ideas to support existing program operations and expansion and present these ideas to the BOD as required.

  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from the web and social media presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.

Planning & New Business:

  • Assist the BOD in designing  a five-year growth plan for the organization and assist with the strategic business planning process for expansion into the evolving space of online and virtual education

  • Begin to build partnerships with allied organizations, regional community leaders, and thought leaders in the educational space.

  • Be an external presence that emphasizes program successes with an eye for replication regionally and internationally.

Qualifications

All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.

Specific requirements include:

  • A graduate degree is required and an advanced degree preferred, with at least 10 years of senior management experience; track record of effectively leading and regionally scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth

  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation

  • Strong analytical skills are essential. Experience using project management and teamwork tools like shared spaces, information systems, CRMs, Sharepoint etc. is a plus.

  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget

  • Strong project management skills including defining deliverables, establishing metrics, planning timelines, and ensuring compliance with guidelines. Knowledge of PDCA, Kanban, or Agile methodologies is a plus.

  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills

  • Passion, empathy, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, self-directed with a strong belief in the role of philanthropy in uplifting lives

Step 3: Further shortlisted candidates will be invited for a series of interviews which can be in-person or via video-conferencing.

Step 4: Potential candidates will be provided with an assignment which they will need to complete and submit within 48 hours of receiving it.
