Dr Arfa Khan Scholarship
The Dr. Arfa Khan scholarship program supports the students in Kashmir who want to pursue their careers beyond conventional STEM. This scholarship program extends support to the students who want to pursue off-beat professions like liberal arts, fine arts, humanities, languages, writing and more. Through this scholarship, KEI aims to support a holistic education of passionate and highly driven students in the valley. A role model, a proficient doctor and a stellar woman, Dr Arfa Khan has worked her entire life in the service of humanity. A renowned radiologist with more than fifty years of exceptional professional streak at the Long Island Jewish Medical Centre (US), Dr. Arfa Khan has created a path of her own, cutting across gender, religion, race and cultural barriers. She has worked heartily and tirelessly in the service of her community be it in Long Island or her homeland, Kashmir. Academically first divisioner, a recipient of various medals during her MBBS in GMC (Srinagar), Dr, Arfa Khan has exhibited her flair for excellence throughout her life. Apart from acing at her full time career and a family, she has also made significant and notable contributions in various causes like establishing Islamic Centre for Long Island. She has also helped in establishing the Islamic Medical Association of North America, Islamic Center of Long Island. Dr. Arfa has contributed in several medical initiatives at her Alma Mater GMC in Kashmir, including introducing CT guided lung Biopsy. She has also helped in setting up new standards of radiology in Saudi Arabia, for which she was awarded by King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh.
Dr. Arfa is a pioneer in setting up new heights of professionalism and service for women of Kashmir. A stellar woman with a beautiful blend of intelligence, hard work, persistence and willingness, she has set benchmarks for how women can have it all.
She is a woman who leads from the front. From guiding her family, friends, fellow Kashmiris; bringing up her children, giving back to her community in Kashmir, mentoring students and doctors across boundaries; her commitments and loyalties are a testament of her exceptional stature. Dr. Arfa retired from her services in IJMC in 2018 at the pinnacle of her career, but continues her contributions to the society through AFK foundation and now the Dr. Arfa Khan Scholarship Program. “Dr. Arfa provides the answer that there are no limitations or restrictions if one is willing to tap into one's God given abilities, work hard and excel.” -Dr. Faroque Khan
